CCTV cameras

I've bought a few of these recently. I have them looking out of my bedroom window. One looks one way and another looks in the opposite direction. Because of the traffic calming measures not far away I can even switch from camera to camera and see a car travel along the street.........I could just as easily go to the bedroom window and look out of it. Where it did come in handy was the other night when I switched on the camera to see blue flashing lights. There was a fire in the flat in the next close to me. I wonder what the English equivalent of "close" is?
